‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ Stays on Top at Korean Box Office

The animated movie ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ remained the number one film at the South Korean box office over the weekend. It was a very slow period for movie theaters in the country. ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ kept a strong hold, capturing nearly 44% of the total box office revenue. Its earnings dropped by only 32% compared to the previous week. The movie made $1.91 million from Friday to Sunday. After 12 days in theaters, its total earnings in Korea have reached $8.48 million.

The Korean film ‘Exhuma’ stayed at the second position. It earned $772,000 with an 18% market share. Since its release on February 22, ‘Exhuma’ has collected an impressive $82.7 million from 11.8 million viewers. The situation may improve from this Wednesday with the release of the highly expected ‘The Roundup: Punishment’. This is the fourth part of the popular Korean crime comedy action film series starring Don Lee.

In third place was the Japanese romance film ‘The Last 10 Years’, which had previously released in Korea in May 2023. It made $319,000 over the weekend, taking its total earnings in Korea to $2.87 million. Other movies in the top rankings included the Korean crime drama ‘Troll Factory’ at fourth place, and the Hollywood films ‘Dune: Part Two’ and ‘The First Omen’ at lower positions.

The South Korean box office didn’t do well last weekend, possibly because there weren’t any big new movies. Fans are probably waiting for the next blockbuster to come out.
