Dan Lin, Netflix’s new film chief, has a clear goal: to focus on making better films, not necessarily fewer. During Netflix’s Q1 earnings call, co-CEO Ted Sarandos emphasized Lin’s strategy, highlighting the company’s commitment to enhancing film quality while maintaining its production volume.
Responding to reports on Lin’s plans to improve film quality and diversify content, Sarandos clarified that while there’s no intention to reduce the number of films, the emphasis is on elevating their quality.
Lin, who joined Netflix in April, has swiftly made changes, including restructuring the film department by genre rather than budget level. His track record, including productions like “The Two Popes” and “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” reflects his understanding of both Netflix and its audience.
Sarandos expressed enthusiasm for Lin’s contributions, noting his deep understanding of Netflix’s audience-centric approach to quality.
